Privacy Statement
The Municipal District of Willow Creek (“MD of Willow Creek”) is committed to protecting the privacy of individuals and safeguarding personal information in its care and control.
The MD of Willow Creek collects, uses, and discloses personal information in accordance with Alberta’s Protection of Privacy Act (POPA) and Access to Information Act (ATIA). These Acts apply to municipalities and establish rules governing how public bodies manage personal information and provide access to records.
Collection of Personal Information
The MD of Willow Creek collects personal information only where it is authorized by legislation and where it relates directly to a municipal program, service, or activity. Whenever possible, personal information is collected directly from the individual and only to the extent necessary to carry out municipal business.
When personal information is collected, individuals will be informed of:
- the purpose for collecting the information;
- the legal authority for the collection; and
- the name and contact information of a person at the MD of Willow Creek who can answer questions about the collection.
Use and Disclosure of Personal Information
Personal information is used only for the purpose for which it was collected or for a use consistent with that purpose, unless otherwise authorized by law. The MD of Willow Creek does not sell personal information and only discloses personal information where permitted or required by legislation.
Safeguards and Privacy Protection
The MD of Willow Creek takes reasonable steps to protect personal information against unauthorized access, use, disclosure, loss, or destruction. This includes administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information.
In the event of a privacy breach that poses a real risk of significant harm, the MD of Willow Creek will comply with legislative notification requirements.
Access to Information and Correction
Under the Access to Information Act, individuals have the right to request access to records in the custody or control of the MD of Willow Creek, subject to limited and specific exceptions. Individuals also have the right to request access to and correction of their own personal information, where appropriate.
