Assistant Public Works Manager

The primary duties of this position include: 


  • Manage and supervise the public works department functions including:
    1. Transportation projects and maintenance
    2. Bridge construction
    3. Waste collection
    4. Potable water treatment and distribution
    5. Sanitary sewer collection and treatment
    6. Vegetation management
    7. Maintenance shop operations
  • Supporting Asset Management functions throughout the municipality such as:
    1. Reporting on service delivery
    2. Service delivery program and system development
    3. Infrastructure condition and functionality inspections and reporting
  • Gravel pit management and compliance
  • Alberta environment Water Act compliance
  • Working with ESRI products
  • Assist with capital and non-capital project management
  • Traffic accommodation strategy reviews
  • Construction cost estimating
  • Participate and support of the Health and Safety Program
  • Public procurement of goods and services through:
    1. Request for Quote
    2. Request for Proposals
    3. Tendering
  • Other duties that provide challenge and variety



The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:


  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in a Municipal/Public Works or civil contracting experience
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the supervision and repairs of road and infrastructure construction and maintenance
  • Valid Class 5 Operator's License and/or be willing to upgrade (drivers abstract required with application)
  • The ideal candidate will demonstrate an ability to work independently with commitment and focus
  • Water Treatment and Distribution experience and/or certification
  • Post-secondary education in a related field is considered an asset
